Growing together through empowerment and encounter

The project Growing Together through Empowerment and Encounter is primarily aimed at immigrants of different nationalities who live in Thuringia. The project framework comprises three levels:

  1. Knowledge transfer to strengthen social integration,
  2. Empowerment against discrimination for positive reinforcement and
  3. Opportunities to meet local residents in order to strengthen mutual acceptance.

The target group will initially be supported in their social integration through knowledge transfer. Knowledge transfer will take place in two formats: low-threshold information events (in short: information events) and dialogue formats.

Information events are offered on the education system, healthcare system, labour market and career guidance. They usually consist of a 1.5- to 2-hour presentation followed by a question and answer session or the opportunity for more in-depth discussion. Dialogue formats, on the other hand, are 4-6-hour workshops that address social and emancipatory rights such as women’s rights, children’s rights and the right to inclusion.

Empowerment training courses on dealing with (everyday) racism and discrimination provide information about the various forms and levels of discrimination, as well as anti-Semitism and racism, and teach participants coping strategies for dealing with these issues on an individual level.

To promote interaction with the German population, intergroup get-togethers with cooperation partners are to be organised twice a year.
